The Story of Ruby

The Story of Ruby

Ruby is a senior financial controller who reviews and signs off on monthly statements. She represents her team, frustrated by slow review cycles, version confusion, and scattered data, all of which delay approvals and add stress to tight deadlines.

Financial Executive

Every team has their own version of the truth. The back-and-forth on reviews slows us down and creates confusion.

Kara S.

Operations Manager

By the time I get reports, they’re outdated. I need real-time insight, not PDFs buried in long email threads.

David M.

Financial Executive

I spend hours copying numbers between sheets. One small error breaks everything, and it’s hard to trace back.

Amira J.

Reporting Analyst

I waste days finding source data. There’s no central place to pull from, and it makes closing out the month a mess.

Phase 1

Kickoff

Requirements

Listen

Listened in on the current issues and revenue goals from the business, and current pain points from end users.

Gathering Info

Gathered light requirements on what our clients are looking to do, and building personas on the fly to cover use cases.

Phase 2 Prep

Discussed next steps on putting together a PRD, and mapping out concept work and user journeys to review in phase 2.

The client didn't react well to our first prototype, and requested drastic changes 2 weeks prior to the deadline.

Design Pivot

Regroup

With only a few days to prepare, we met with the TO, reviewed the client feedback via excel notes, did a whiteboarding session for 2 hours, and agreed on the new layout.

Backlog Shift

We shifted two features to our next sprint, agreed upon by the client that were not crucial for launch. The client was flexible and allowed us to pivot.

Rapid Prototyping

Within 2 days, the power of autolayout and a well organized DS and figma file, we powered through a complete redesign that the client ended up loving.
